Washington, DC native AMARU began studying poetry and musical theatre at an early age, eventually graduating from Morehouse College with a degree in Classical Vocal Performance. Inspired by a wide variety of genres, his musical palette is as expansive as his four octave range. His vocal sound is an amalgamation of R&B/Soul, Classical, Choral, and Jazz music. Some of the most influential artists he's noted include: Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Bilal, Claude Debussy and H.T Burleigh. AMARU writes, composes, and produces his original music often incorporating improvisation into his creative process (and live sets) using piano and looping technologies.
